100- AND 200-HOUR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMS  will be taking applications for enrollment in Fall of 2008, with programs beginning in January 2009. Lucy Holmes will be a primary faculty member of the program, with Angela Culbertson, Justicia Friese, and Mary Paffard as supporting/adjunct faculty. Previously she co-developed and taught in the YogaSource 200-hour Basic Teacher Training for the 2006 and 2007 programs. Lucy believes a solid foundation of alignment principles and teaching methodology, joined with a basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology, along with an understanding of classical yoga philosophy is necessary for an individual to call herself a yoga teacher. WellSpring Yoga Teacher Training Programs will be in alignment with National Yoga Alliance requirements, and will allow the student to apply for the 200-hour registration with the Alliance. Students must continue with the second 100-hour intensive in order to complete the 180 contact hours for Yoga Alliance standards. The 100-hour option exists for students who prefer not to be certified as teachers or who wish to complete a home-study course for the Yoga Registry.  Location of weekend trainings will be at Nurturing Spirit Yoga Studio in the Grove.

The format for the first 100-hour WellSpring Yoga Teacher Training is four 20-hour weekends and eight 1.25 hour classes. The program is 90 contact hours, per Yoga Alliance standards.  Each weekend schedule will include asana practice, analysis of postures, teaching techniques and methodology, and pranayama and meditation practice. Three weekends will include study of anatomy & physiology, philosophy, and opportunities to practice teaching. Students will be required to complete 20 hours minimum of self-study and homework, including observation of classes, assisting, and practice teaching; assignments are to be completed outside the intensives. Dates for the first weekend will be January 9-11, 2009. For more information contact Lucy Holmes (314) 614.3187 expyoga@juno.com
